Case IH 518312-00 - BCM – BCM: USB charge port - too many loads or faulty load

The control module has detected an excessive current draw, a short circuit, or a defective device/cable connected to the cab's USB charging port circuit.

   Unplug any smartphones, tablets, or USB cables currently plugged into the cab's USB ports

   Clear the BCM fault codes using an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic scanner. If the code does not return, the issue was caused by a faulty aftermarket charging cable or a device drawing excessive amperage

   Inspect the physical USB port for bent internal pins, debris, or liquid intrusion that could be causing a hard short

   Check the wiring harness between the USB port and the BCM for chafing, pinched wires, or a short to ground

   Use a multimeter to verify that the BCM is sending the correct reference voltage to the port connector and that the ground circuit is intact

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent any further electrical shorts or BCM damage.

   Access the Port

   Remove the interior cab trim panel or console housing where the faulty USB charge port is mounted.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the 3-pole electrical connector from the back of the USB socket.

   Remove the Socket

   Depress the retaining clips/tabs on the sides of the USB port body and push it outward through the mounting hole.

   Install the New Part

   Insert the replacement USB power socket into the trim panel until the retaining clips snap securely into place.

   Reconnect

   Plug the 3-pole electrical connector into the new USB port.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the cab trim panel or console.

   Test and Clear

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, plug in a known-good device and cable to verify it charges correctly, and clear the 518312-00 fault code from the BCM.
