Case IH 518312-05 - BCM – BCM: USB charge port - open circuit

The control module is monitoring the circuit for the cab's USB charging port and has detected a break in the electrical path. This condition is typically caused by a disconnected wire, a severed harness, a pushed-out connector pin, or an internal hardware failure within the USB port itself that prevents current flow.

   Visually inspect the USB charge port from the front of the console for physical damage, broken plastic, or debris that might have damaged the internal contacts.

   Access the back of the USB port and verify that the electrical harness is fully seated and locked into the port.

   Disconnect the USB port and use a digital multimeter to check the wiring harness for continuity between the BCM output pins and the USB port connector.

   With the key ON, check if the BCM is supplying the correct baseline voltage to the connector. If voltage is present but the port doesn't work, the port is internally open. If there is no voltage, the open circuit is in the wiring harness or the BCM itself.

   Power down the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Carefully pry or unscrew the cab trim panel/console housing where the USB charge port is mounted to gain access to the rear of the component.

   Depress the locking tab and disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the USB port.

   Inspect the harness connector for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins. If the connector is damaged, splice in a replacement pigtail.

   If the wiring tests good, the open circuit is internal to the USB port. Squeeze the retaining tabs or unscrew the locking collar on the back of the port and push it out through the front of the trim panel.

   Insert the replacement USB charge port into the panel until it clicks or lock it down with its retaining collar.

   Reconnect the wiring harness to the new port.

   Reinstall the trim panel/console.

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition ON, and plug a device (like a smartphone) into the port to verify it is receiving a charge.

    Clear the inactive 518312-05 fault code from the AFS Connect display.
