Case IH 518313-05 - UCM – UCM: Rear hitch side link extend solenoid - low current / open circuit

The control module has detected that the electrical current flowing to the solenoid responsible for extending the rear hitch side link is below the minimum required threshold. This typically indicates an open circuit, which is most commonly caused by a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, or a burned-out (open) solenoid coil.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading from the UCM to the rear hitch hydraulic valve block for chafed wires, pinch points, or severed lines.

   Disconnect the plug at the side link extend solenoid and check for water ingress, bent pins, or heavy corrosion.

   Using a digital multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the extend solenoid. An 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinite resistance reading confirms the solenoid coil has failed internally and must be replaced.

   With the key on (and the system commanding the hitch), check for voltage at the connector to rule out a wiring harness failure between the UCM and the valve.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent accidental short circuits.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the rear hitch control valve block at the rear of the tractor. Identify the specific proportional solenoid responsible for the 'side link extend' function.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid Coil

   Remove the retaining nut or snap ring at the end of the valve stem. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. (Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system or remove the valve cartridge itself just to replace the electrical coil).

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/ring.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact and the locking tab clicks into place.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and operate the rear hitch side link. Verify that the fault code 518313-05 changes to an inactive state or clears entirely.
