518314-05 - UCM

Case IH 518314-05 - UCM – UCM: Rear hitch side link retract solenoid - low current / open circuit.

Issue description

The system has detected that the electrical current flowing to the rear hitch side link retract solenoid is below the normal operating threshold, or the circuit is completely open. This typically indicates a disconnected wiring harness, a broken wire, corroded pins, or an internally failed (open) solenoid coil.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Puma
  • Optum
  • Maxxum
  • Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Use the AFS Pro 1200 monitor to navigate to the Faults and Warnings menu and determine if the 518314-05 code is Active or Inactive

  2. Inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the rear hitch valve block for disconnected plugs, pinched wires, or corrosion inside the connector

  3. Disconnect the harness at the side link retract solenoid and measure the resistance of the solenoid coil (an infinite reading confirms an internally open coil)

  4. Check for proper voltage at the harness connector when the side link retract switch is commanded

  5. Inspect the UCM Interface Wire Harness at the UCM for loose pins or damage

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and remove the key to ensure the UCM is powered down before disconnecting components.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the rear hitch side link retract solenoid on the rear hydraulic valve block.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Remove the retaining nut or hardware securing the solenoid coil to the hydraulic valve stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve cartridge.

  5. Install the New Part

Slide the replacement solenoid onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining hardware.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid, ensuring the weather seal is intact and the connector clicks into place.

  7. Clear Codes & Test

Turn the ignition key switch ON. Access the Pro 1200 monitor, navigate to the ISOBUS/Faults menu, and clear the inactive fault codes. Actuate the rear hitch side link retract switch to confirm the repair.
