Case IH 518314-06 - UCM – UCM: Rear hitch side link retract solenoid - low current / open circuit

The UCM detects a low current or open circuit condition on the rear hitch side link retract solenoid.

   Inspect UCM Connections: The lift and PTO solenoids share specific connectors into the UCM (such as connector 92). Check these connections for water, dirt, or corrosion.

   Harness Continuity Test: Trace the wiring harness from the UCM to the rear hitch side link retract solenoid. Look for physical damage, chafed wires, or an open circuit in the lines.

   Solenoid Coil Test: Measure the resistance of the side link retract solenoid coil with a multimeter to confirm if the coil itself has failed internally (causing the open circuit / low current reading).

   Power Supply Check: Verify that the UCM is receiving proper power and ground, as power is distributed out of the UCM to the solenoids.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor completely. Do not unplug connectors from the UCM while the tractor is running or the key is on, as this can cause further electrical issues.

   Locate Components

   Locate the UCM and trace the harness to the rear hitch hydraulic valve stack where the side link retract solenoid is mounted.

   Clean and Inspect

   Unplug the connector at the UCM and the connector at the retract solenoid. Inspect for water or dirt ingress. Clean the pins with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

   Test and Repair Wiring

   If the solenoid tests within specification, perform a continuity test on the harness. Repair any broken wires or replace the damaged harness section.

   Replace Solenoid

   If the solenoid coil is open (infinite resistance), remove the retaining nut on the valve stack, slide the old solenoid coil off the cartridge, and install the new replacement solenoid.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Plug all connections back in, start the tractor, and use the AFS Pro display to clear the inactive fault codes. Test the rear hitch side link retract function to ensure the repair is successful.
