Case IH 518316-05 - UCM – UCM: Front suspension flow control solenoid - Current Low / Open Circuit

The current flowing to the Front suspension flow control solenoid is below the normal operating threshold (Current Low / Open Circuit). The control module is commanding the solenoid to activate, but it is not detecting the expected electrical current return. This typically points to an open circuit, a disconnected harness plug, a broken wire, or a completely failed (burnt-out) solenoid coil.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running down to the front axle suspension valve block for pinch points, chafing against the chassis, or damage from field debris.

   Unplug the connector at the front suspension flow control solenoid and check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

   Perform a coil resistance test using a multimeter across the two pins of the solenoid coil. An 'OL' (Open Loop) or infinitely high reading indicates a broken internal coil.

   If the coil tests within normal resistance specs, test the wiring harness for continuity from the solenoid connector back to the UCM pins to check for a break in the power or ground wire.

   Safely Prep the Machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower any implements, turn off the engine, and engage the battery disconnect switch.

   Relieve Pressure

   If you are replacing the entire hydraulic cartridge (and not just the slip-on coil), ensure the front suspension is fully lowered/settled to relieve hydraulic pressure in the accumulator and lines.

   Remove the Faulty Component

   If replacing just the coil: Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem and slide the faulty coil off. If replacing the whole valve: Clean the area around the suspension manifold to prevent dirt ingress, then unscrew the flow control solenoid cartridge from the block.

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new coil onto the stem or thread the new cartridge into the manifold. Torque to the manufacturer's specification.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the solenoid, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Turn the battery disconnect back on and power up the tractor. Use the AFS Pro display or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive 518316-05 fault code. Test the manual raise/lower function of the front suspension to verify the repair.
