Case IH 518316-06 - UCM – UCM: Front suspension flow control solenoid current high

The controller is detecting that the solenoid circuit is drawing more amperage than expected, which is typically caused by a short circuit in the wiring harness or an internally shorted solenoid coil.

   Inspect UCM Connectors: Unplug the connectors at the UCM (with the tractor turned off) and inspect them for water, dirt, or corrosion, which can bridge pins and cause high current/short circuit faults.

   Harness Inspection: Trace the wiring harness from the UCM down to the front suspension control valve block. Look for rubbed, pinched, or melted wires that could be shorting to the tractor frame (ground) or to another power wire.

   Test the Solenoid: Disconnect the flow control solenoid on the front suspension block and measure its resistance with a multimeter. A reading of zero or near-zero ohms indicates the coil is internally shorted and requires replacement.

   System Voltage: Verify that the tractor's batteries and alternator are functioning correctly, as voltage supply issues can sometimes trigger erratic current faults in the UCM.

   Prepare tractor

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower any implements, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

   Relieve pressure

   Relieve hydraulic pressure from the front suspension system if you are removing the entire valve cartridge (if only replacing the electrical coil, pressure relief may not be strictly necessary, but is recommended for safety).

   Locate valve block

   Locate the front suspension control valve block (Terraglide manifold).

   Disconnect solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the flow control solenoid.

   Remove retaining nut

   Remove the retaining nut or clip holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem.

   Remove faulty coil

   Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. (If the cartridge itself is damaged, unthread the cartridge from the manifold block and install a new one).

   Install new coil

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the wiring harness.

   Verify repair

   Power on the tractor, clear the UCM fault codes, and cycle the front suspension to verify the repair.
