Case IH 518391-06 - DEC – DEC: Park brake detent solenoid electrical circuit fault - current above normal
Issue description
This code indicates an electrical fault in the circuit controlling the park brake detent solenoid. The "06" Failure Mode Indicator (FMI) specifically designates that the current is above normal or the circuit is grounded (short to ground). The system has detected an excessive current draw, usually caused by a shorted wiring harness or an internal short within the solenoid coil itself.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the DEC to the park brake detent solenoid for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinch points that could cause a short to ground.
Disconnect the harness at the solenoid and at the DEC to check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins, which can bridge connections and cause high current readings.
Use a digital multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the park brake detent solenoid. If the resistance is near zero (continuity), the internal coil is shorted.
With both ends of the harness disconnected, check for continuity between the solenoid power wire and the tractor's chassis ground. If continuity exists, the harness is shorted.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental short circuits during repair.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the transmission control valve block (usually mounted on the side of the hydrostatic/transmission housing). Identify the park brake detent solenoid.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid
Remove the retaining nut or bolt at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: If the cartridge itself is leaking or mechanically stuck, you may need to unscrew the entire valve cartridge from the block. Have a catch pan ready for hydraulic fluid).
Install the New Part
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Torque to OEM specifications.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the solenoid. Ensure the locking tab clicks into place.
Restore Power & Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the in-cab display (holding the INCR/DECR keys if supported by your ICU software version) to clear the inactive fault codes.
Test Operation
Start the tractor and cycle the Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Park (FNRP) lever. Verify that the park brake engages and disengages smoothly without triggering the fault code.
