Case IH 518411-02 - ACM – ACM: Display escape switch circuit fault

Issue description

Indicates an electrical fault—such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power—within the circuit of the physical "Escape" switch used to navigate the tractor's display monitor.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 180 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 200 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 220 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 240 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 250 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 280 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 310 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 340 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 380 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 400 AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the armrest's Integrated Control Panel and the Armrest Control Module (ACM)

  2. Test the escape switch circuit for continuity, checking for an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to the 5V reference power

  3. Ensure the ACM 34-cavity connector (C054M) is fully seated and free of corrosion or bent pins

  4. Use a multimeter to verify if the escape switch changes state when pressed to rule out internal mechanical failure

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the Armrest Console

Carefully remove the trim panels on the armrest to expose the Integrated Control Panel and the ACM wiring harness.

  3. Isolate the Fault

Disconnect the escape switch/encoder cluster from the harness. Test the harness side for proper voltage (usually a 5V reference from the ACM) and ground.

  4. Replace the Component

If the wiring tests good but the switch fails continuity tests, replace the switch assembly or the Integrated Control Panel (depending on modularity). If the switch is good but the harness is damaged, repair the broken wire or replace the armrest harness. If both the switch and wiring are good, the ACM itself may be failing to read the input and may require replacement.

  5. Reassembly & Calibration

Reconnect all harnesses, restore battery power, and clear the fault codes using the diagnostic tool. Test the escape switch on the armrest to ensure it properly backs out of menus on the AFS display.
