Case IH 518413-00 - ACM – ACM: Display navigation knob internal failure
Issue description
The system has detected an internal electrical or mechanical failure within the rotary navigation encoder knob, which is used by the operator to navigate the menus on the AFS Pro 1200 display.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series
- Case IH Steiger AFS Connect series
- Case IH Quadtrac AFS Connect series
- Case IH Optum AFS Connect series
Check the cause
Inspect the operations screen navigation encoder knob on the main armrest panel for physical damage, liquid spills, or debris that might cause the knob to stick or fail internally.
Check the electrical connections between the navigation encoder and the Armrest Control Module (ACM) to ensure connectors are fully seated, not damaged, and pins are in the correct position.
Verify the ACM software version, as OEM bulletins frequently release software updates (e.g., 1.1.0.0 or 1.2.0.0) to resolve false fault codes.
Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the display monitor to note the error code, clear it, and test the knob (turning and pressing) to see if the fault returns during normal operation.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Armrest
Carefully pry or unscrew the upper trim cover of the Multicontroller main armrest panel to expose the internal switches and the ACM.
Disconnect the Encoder
Locate the navigation encoder knob assembly. Disconnect its specific electrical wiring harness connector from the ACM circuit.
Remove the Faulty Part
Remove the retaining screws or mounting clips securing the encoder knob assembly to the armrest console.
Install the New Part
Seat the new navigation encoder knob into the armrest panel and secure it with the retaining hardware.
Reassemble
Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks into place. Reinstall the armrest trim cover.
Test and Clear
Reconnect the battery and power on the tractor. Press and turn the new navigation encoder knob to verify it successfully controls the AFS Pro 1200 display. Clear the 518413-00 fault code from the ACM memory.
Parts you might need
(3)Operations Screen Navigation Encoder Knob / Armrest Dial Button Encoder
Often serviced as part of the upper armrest control panel assembly. Ensure parts are ordered specifically for the 'AFS Connect' generation.
