Case IH 518413-01 - ACM – ACM: Internal failure in the monitor navigation knob
Issue description
Hardware or internal circuitry failure within the rotary encoder knob used by the operator to navigate the AFS Pro 1200 display from the armrest.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum AFS Connect Series (180, 200, 240, 280, 340, 380, 400)
- Case IH Steiger & Quadtrac AFS Connect Series (370 to 620 HP models)
- Case IH Optum Series
- Case IH Puma Series
Check the cause
Check for related ACM codes (e.g., 518413-06, 518413-19, 518413-14, 518413-09) using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) that might indicate a wiring or configuration issue rather than an internal failure
Inspect the wiring harness and physical connection between the encoder knob keypad and the Armrest Control Module for pinched wires or disconnections
Verify the ACM is properly configured using the EST tool to rule out false encoder faults
Check the encoder knob for physical damage, sticking, or liquid intrusion
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the armrest control module.
Access the Armrest
Carefully remove the trim panels on the Multicontroller armrest to access the underside of the control keypad.
Disconnect the Encoder
Locate the monitor navigation encoder knob assembly. Disconnect its specific wiring harness connector from the ACM.
Remove the Faulty Knob
Unbolt or unclip the encoder knob assembly from the armrest housing.
Install the New Part
Seat the replacement encoder knob into the armrest and secure it.
Reconnect
Plug the wiring harness back into the new encoder and reassemble the armrest trim.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, connect the EST diagnostic tool, and clear the 518413-01 fault code.
Test Operation
Turn on the AFS Pro 1200 display and use the new encoder knob to navigate through the hydraulic, engine, and PTO menus to verify full functionality.
