518413-19 - ACM

Case IH 518413-19 - ACM – ACM: Navigation encoder keypad disconnected

Issue description

This indicates a loss of communication or a physical electrical disconnection between the navigation encoder keypad (the turn-and-press dial used to navigate the AFS Pro 1200 display) and the armrest's internal network.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum AFS Connect Series
  • Steiger AFS Connect Series
  • Quadtrac AFS Connect Series
  • Optum AFS Connect Series

Check the cause

  1. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the vehicle to confirm that 518413-19 is currently active.

  2. Remove the covers of the Multicontroller armrest to access the internal components.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and CAN cables connecting the navigation encoder keypad to the ACM.

  4. Check for loose, backed-out, or corroded pins at the connector for the encoder keypad and the corresponding port on the ACM.

  5. Verify that the ACM is receiving proper power and ground (Pin 1 - UNSW B+, Pin 2 - SWB+, Pin 7 - GND) and that the internal armrest CAN bus is intact.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Carefully remove the outer housing/trim of the Multicontroller armrest to expose the ACM and the underside of the control dials.

  3. Locate the navigation encoder keypad (the turn-and-press dial) and trace its wiring harness to the Armrest Control Module (ACM).

  4. Reconnect any loose or disconnected plugs. If corrosion is present, clean the contacts with an approved electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

  5. If the wiring harness is pinched, chafed, or broken, repair the damaged section of the wire or replace the internal armrest harness.

  6. If the wiring and connections are verified to be in good condition but the fault persists, the navigation encoder keypad itself has likely failed internally and must be replaced.

  7. Reassemble the armrest housing.

  8. Reconnect the battery, power on the tractor, and use the EST to clear the fault codes. Test the encoder dial to ensure it successfully navigates the AFS Pro 1200 display.
