Case IH 518414-02 - ACM – ACM: Display navigation knob switch circuit fault

The system has detected an open circuit or a loss of communication with the navigation encoder knob (the rotary turn-and-press dial used to navigate the AFS Pro 1200 display) while the machine's key switch is in the ON position. This indicates that the physical connection between the encoder knob and the control module has been interrupted, or the encoder hardware has failed internally.

   Verify Display Functionality: Test the AFS Pro 1200 monitor using the touchscreen interface. If the touchscreen works but the encoder knob does not, the issue is isolated to the knob's circuit rather than the display itself.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the encoder knob on the Multicontroller armrest for physical damage, sticking, or signs of liquid intrusion (e.g., spilled drinks), which is a common cause of switch failure in the armrest.

   Harness & Connector Check: Carefully lift the armrest console trim and inspect the wiring harness connecting the encoder knob to the Armrest Control Module (ACM). Look for loose connectors, backed-out pins, or pinched wires.

   Continuity Test: Use a multimeter to check the continuity of the wiring harness between the encoder knob connector and the ACM to rule out a broken wire.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Armrest Internals

   Remove the fastening screws securing the upper trim panels of the Multicontroller armrest. Carefully pry up the plastic housing to expose the internal control boards and wiring.

   Disconnect the Encoder

   Locate the navigation encoder knob assembly. Depress the locking tab on its electrical connector and unplug it from the harness.

   Remove the Faulty Switch

   Remove the retaining screws or clips holding the encoder knob assembly to the armrest bezel. Pull the faulty unit out.

   Install the New Part

   Seat the replacement encoder knob into the armrest bezel and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Plug the electrical harness into the new encoder knob, ensuring the connector clicks securely into place.

   Carefully reinstall the armrest trim panels, ensuring no wires are pinched in the process.

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use the AFS Pro 1200 display to clear the inactive 518414-02 fault code. Test the new encoder by rotating and pressing it to navigate through the tractor's menus (e.g., hydraulics, HVAC, radio).
