Case IH 518423-14 - ACM – ACM: Incorrect hand throttle 2 configuration
Issue description
This code indicates a mismatch between the physical hardware present on the armrest (the secondary split hand throttle) and the software configuration programmed into the tractor's control module. It can also be triggered if the sensor fails in a way that makes the module believe the hardware has been removed or altered.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS Connect series
- Steiger AFS Connect series
- Puma series
Check the cause
Verify ACM Configuration: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and check parameter (Config B/b 1.1) Hand throttle #2 position to ensure software matches physical hardware.
Check for related voltage codes: Look for codes 518423-13 (Voltage Low), 518423-06 (Voltage High), or 518423-03 (Internal Failure) which indicate a failed potentiometer or wiring short.
Inspect wiring: Check the wiring harness connecting the hand throttle potentiometer to the ACM for chafing, pinched wires, or loose connector pins.
Repair steps
Correct the Software Configuration (If Applicable)
If the EST shows that Hand Throttle 2 is configured incorrectly for the tractor's build, update the ACM configuration to match the physical hardware, save the changes, and cycle the key.
Access the Throttle Assembly
If the configuration is correct but the fault persists (indicating a hardware failure), power down the tractor and remove the plastic trim pieces on the right-hand MultiControl armrest console to access the throttle assembly.
Test the Potentiometer
Disconnect the Hand Throttle 2 potentiometer and test it with a multimeter. If it shows an open circuit or erratic resistance sweeps, it must be replaced.
Replace the Potentiometer/Grip
Remove the retaining screws (typically M4 or M5 hex socket head screws) holding the throttle grip and potentiometer in place. Swap in the new potentiometer and reassemble the friction washers and throttle grip.
Reassemble and Calibrate
Reconnect the wiring harness and reinstall the armrest trim.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the EST, clear the inactive 518423-14 fault code, and perform a throttle calibration procedure if prompted by the EST. Test the throttle sweep to ensure smooth operation.
