Case IH 518430-14 - BCM – BCM: Max defrost switch - invalid input voltage

The electrical voltage signal coming from the Max Defrost switch on the cab's climate control panel is outside the expected or valid operating range.

   Inspect the Max Defrost switch on the HVAC control panel for physical damage, sticking, or liquid spills that could cause a short.

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the HVAC control panel to the BCM for chafed wires, pinched lines, or exposed copper.

   Disconnect the harness at the climate control panel and the BCM to check for corroded, backed-out, or bent pins.

   Using a multimeter, verify the input voltage at the BCM pin designated for the max defrost switch.

   Test the switch itself for proper continuity and resistance changes when depressed.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Access the Panel

   Carefully remove the trim surrounding the HVAC control panel / Integrated Control Panel inside the cab.

   Disconnect Harness

   Unplug the electrical connectors from the rear of the climate control panel.

   Repair/Replace

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the affected connector. If the switch itself failed the continuity test, replace the Max Defrost switch. Note: On many AFS Connect models, the climate switches are integrated into a single HVAC control panel assembly or Integrated Control Panel, requiring the replacement of the entire panel module.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness to the new switch/panel and snap the trim pieces back into place.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and clear the inactive fault codes from the BCM. Press the Max Defrost switch to verify the HVAC system responds correctly and the code does not return.
