Case IH 518433-02 - ACM – ACM: Multi function handle stop switch circuit fault

This fault indicates a circuit error related to the "Quick Stop" or emergency stop switch located on the Multi-Function Handle (MFH). The -02 Failure Mode Indicator (FMI) typically designates "Data erratic, intermittent, or incorrect" or a signal voltage that is out of the expected range (often a short to ground or open circuit). The controller is receiving an invalid signal from the stop switch, which can disable certain implement, transmission, or harvesting functions for safety.

   Inspect the Quick Stop switch on the Multi-Function Handle for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing it from returning to its neutral state.

   Remove the armrest console cover and inspect the wiring harness connecting the base of the Multi-Function Handle to the Armrest Control Module (ACM). Look for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected pins.

   Using a multimeter, test the stop switch circuit for continuity when the button is pressed and released.

   Verify that the ACM is supplying the correct 5V reference voltage and ground to the handle's encoder/switch circuit.

   Ensure there are no accompanying CAN communication codes (such as 1012 - No communication with the ACM), which would point to a broader module failure rather than an isolated switch fault.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery via the master disconnect switch to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Armrest Internals

   Remove the retaining screws on the right-hand armrest console to lift the upper plastic housing.

   Disconnect the Handle

   Locate the main wiring connector at the base of the Multi-Function Handle and disconnect it from the ACM harness.

   Isolate the Fault

   If your multimeter tests in the diagnostic phase proved the switch itself is internally shorted or open (and the harness is fine), the Multi-Function Handle must be replaced. (Note: On most modern Case IH equipment, the switches are integrated into the handle's circuit board and are not serviced individually; the entire handle assembly must be swapped).

   Replace the Handle

   Unbolt the Multi-Function Handle base from the armrest chassis. Install the new handle, route the wiring carefully to avoid pinch points, and plug it into the ACM harness.

   Reassemble and Calibrate

   Reinstall the armrest covers. Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position. You may need to use the Pro 700 / Pro 1200 display or the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive 518433-02 fault code and perform a handle calibration procedure.
