Case IH 518434-00 - ACM – Armrest Control Module (ACM): Multi-Function Handle Thumbwheel Internal Failure

Internal failure of the thumbwheel located on the tractor's Multi-Function Handle (MFH), which is used to adjust Ground Speed Management (GSM) target speeds.

   Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the vehicle and scan for all active Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

   Check for cascading codes (such as F-518049, F-518413, or F-518431) which often point to a shared ground, harness issue, or a loose connection at the controller rather than an isolated thumbwheel failure.

   Remove the armrest cover, disassemble the housing, and physically check all wiring connections for security and corrosion at the armrest controller and the base of the Multi-Function Handle.

   Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery

   This prevents electrical shorts during the repair.

   Remove the armrest console covers

   This provides access to the internal armrest controller and the base mounting of the Multi-Function Handle.

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector

   Disconnect the connector linking the Multi-Function Handle to the Armrest Control Module.

   Remove the mounting hardware and extract the faulty handle

   Remove the hardware securing the handle to the armrest base.

   Install the new Multi-Function Handle

   Secure the new handle with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect the electrical harness connector

   Reconnect the harness to the ACM.

   Reassemble the armrest console covers

   Finalize repair and calibrate

   Reconnect the battery, connect the EST, clear the stored fault codes, and perform any necessary handle calibrations.
