Case IH 518434-03 - ACM – ACM (Armrest Control Module): ACM: Multi function handle thumbwheel voltage high

The control module is receiving a signal voltage from the thumbwheel sensor on the multi-function handle that exceeds the maximum normal operating range. This condition is typically caused by a short to power (5V or 12V), an open ground circuit, or an internal failure of the thumbwheel's potentiometer/sensor.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Multi-Function Handle and the Armrest Control Module (ACM) for pinched wires, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

   Check the 5V reference and ground circuits at the multi-function handle connector. A missing ground will cause the sensor signal to default to high voltage.

   Disconnect the multi-function handle. If the fault code changes from 'voltage high' to 'voltage low' (or open circuit), the tractor's wiring harness to the ACM is likely intact, confirming the fault is internal to the multi-function handle.

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor the thumbwheel axis voltage in real-time. Verify if the voltage is stuck at maximum (e.g., 5.0V) regardless of physical thumbwheel movement.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor key and disconnect battery power to prevent electrical spikes to the ACM.

   Access the Handle

   Remove the trim panels and retaining screws on the armrest console to expose the base of the multi-function handle.

   Disconnect

   Carefully unplug the main electrical connector linking the multi-function handle to the armrest harness.

   Remove

   Unbolt the retaining hardware at the base of the joystick/handle and lift the old unit out of the armrest console.

   Install

   Seat the new multi-function handle into the armrest and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reconnect

   Plug in the electrical connector and reinstall the armrest trim panels.

   Calibrate

   Restore battery power, turn the key on, and use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive 518434-03 fault code. You may need to perform a joystick/thumbwheel calibration routine via the EST or the AFS Pro display so the ACM learns the new sensor's min/max voltage values.
