Case IH 518437-02 - ACM – ACM: Media track down switch circuit fault
Issue description
This code indicates an electrical circuit malfunction (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power) specifically on the "track down" / media shortcut switch circuit located on the tractor's armrest console.
Applies to these machines
10 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum 250
- Magnum 280
- Magnum 310
- Magnum 340
- Magnum 380
- Magnum 400
- Steiger AFS Connect
- Quadtrac AFS Connect
- Optum AFS Connect
Check the cause
Inspect the Multicontroller armrest media buttons and the turn-and-press encoder dial for physical damage, sticking buttons, or liquid spill damage.
Lift the armrest console cover and inspect the wiring harness connecting the media switch/keypad to the ACM for pinched wires or loose connector pins.
Disconnect the keypad/switch connector from the ACM and use a multimeter to check for continuity across the media track down switch pins while pressing the button.
Verify that no other armrest switches are throwing simultaneous codes on the CAN bus. Multiple switch codes indicate a shared ground or failing ACM rather than an individual switch issue.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor key switch and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts while working on the ACM.
Access the Armrest Internals
Remove the fastening screws securing the top plastic bezel of the Multicontroller armrest. Carefully pry up the trim to expose the internal switch modules and the ACM.
Disconnect the Switch Module
Locate the specific keypad or encoder dial module housing the media shortcut switches. Disconnect its pigtail connector from the ACM harness.
Clean and Re-test
If liquid intrusion is suspected, clean the contacts with electronic contact cleaner. Reconnect and power the tractor to see if the code clears.
Replace the Component
If the switch fails the continuity test or the code persists, remove the mounting screws holding the faulty switch/encoder module in the armrest and install the replacement unit.
Reassembly
Reconnect the harness, ensuring the connector clicks into place. Reinstall the armrest bezel and secure the screws.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use the AFS Pro 1200 monitor or a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive 518437-02 fault code. Test the media track down button to ensure proper operation.
Parts you might need
(1)Multicontroller Armrest Keypad / Encoder Dial Assembly (Media Switch Module)
Specific part numbers vary by exact cab configuration (Luxury vs. Performance) and require the machine's PIN/Serial Number to look up in the CNH EPC. Ensure the replacement module matches the exact AFS Connect armrest layout of your machine.
