Case IH 518439-02 - ACM – ACM: Volume decrease switch circuit fault

The system has detected an electrical circuit malfunction (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power) specifically on the switch used to decrease the audio/radio volume located on the tractor's armrest.

   Check the physical condition of the volume decrease switch on the MultiControl armrest to ensure it is not stuck, damaged, or jammed with debris.

   Look for other media switch codes on the AFS Pro 1200 display (e.g., 518440-02, 518438-02). Multiple codes indicate a shared ground or disconnected harness rather than a single failed switch.

   Verify the ACM is receiving proper voltage by checking Pin 1 (Unswitched B+), Pin 2 (Switched B+), and Pin 7 (Ground).

   Gain access to the switch wiring and use a multimeter to test the volume decrease switch for proper continuity when pressed and released.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during disassembly.

   Access the Armrest Internals

   Carefully remove the trim and retaining screws on the MultiControl armrest to access the internal switch matrix and the ACM.

   Inspect Connections

   Locate the electrical connector for the radio/media control switch block. Disconnect it and inspect for backed-out pins, corrosion, or pinched wires.

   Clean and Re-seat

   Clean the connector with electronic contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and firmly re-seat the connection.

   Replace if Faulty

   If the wiring is intact but the switch failed the continuity test, remove the faulty media switch module/block from the armrest housing and install the replacement unit.

   Reassembly and Clearing Codes

   Reassemble the armrest trim, reconnect the battery, and turn the ignition on. Use the AFS Pro 1200 display to clear the inactive fault codes.

   Verify Repair

   Press the volume decrease button to ensure the radio responds correctly and verify that code 518439-02 does not return.
