Case IH 518445-02 - ACM – ACM: Front differential lock switch circuit fault

The control module is receiving an implausible, fluctuating, or out-of-range electrical signal from the front differential lock switch located on the armrest.

   Verify switch operation on the display: Press the front differential lock switch on the armrest and check the A-post or AFS Pro display to see if the diff lock icon appears momentarily and then drops out. Note: On some models, the rear differential lock must be engaged before the front will engage.

   Inspect the diode in the fuse box: Locate the front differential lock diode (typically black with a white arrow). Ensure it is facing the correct direction and has continuity in only one direction, as a backward or failed diode is a highly documented cause.

   Test the switch: Remove the switch from the armrest and use a multimeter to test for proper continuity when toggled.

   Check the wiring harness: Inspect the wiring between the differential lock switch and the ACM for chafing, pinched wires, or loose connector pins.

   Check operating conditions: Ensure the tractor is not traveling above 11.5 MPH (18.5 KPH) and the brake pedals are not being depressed, as these conditions automatically lock out the differential circuit.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the ACM / Switch Panel

   Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panel on the right-hand armrest console to access the underside of the switches and the Armrest Control Module.

   Disconnect the Switch

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the front differential lock switch.

   Replace the Switch (If Faulty)

   If the switch failed the multimeter continuity test, pop the old switch out of the bezel and snap the new OEM switch into place. Reconnect the wiring harness.

   Repair Wiring / Diode (If Switch is Good)

   If the switch is functional, correct the orientation of the differential lock diode in the main fuse box, or replace the diode if it has failed open/shorted. Repair any damaged wires leading to the ACM.

   Reassemble and Calibrate

   Reinstall the armrest trim panels and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Turn the key on, clear the stored fault codes via the diagnostic display, and test the front differential lock engagement (ensure you are moving at a safe, slow speed without touching the brakes).
