Case IH 518478.13 - ACML – ACML: ACML: Joystick wrong configuration
Issue description
The Armrest Control Module is receiving an implausible signal, an out-of-range value, or an uncalibrated position from the multi-function joystick or electrohydraulic remote (EHR) lever. This often happens if the joystick is not reading a true 'neutral' position during tractor startup, or if the internal potentiometer/encoder has drifted out of its calibrated parameters.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Magnum Series (235, 260, 290, 340)
- Steiger / Quadtrac Series (350 to 600)
- Puma Series (175, 210)
- Maxxum Series (120, 135, 190)
Check the cause
Physically inspect the joystick to ensure it mechanically returns to the dead-center neutral position. Check for dirt, debris, or physical obstructions in the joystick boot.
Perform a startup check by turning the key on without touching the armrest. If the tractor immediately throws the code or displays a green cylinder light on the A-post, the joystick is reading a false active position.
Inspect the wiring harness beneath the armrest panel for loose connector pins or chafed wires between the joystick assembly and the ACML ECU.
Repair steps
Perform a Joystick / EHR Calibration
Turn the ignition key to the ON position while holding the PROG (Program) key on the A-post display (or access the calibration menu via the AFS Pro monitor). Navigate to the ARM (Armrest) calibration section and select the joystick/remote lever calibration. Follow the on-screen prompts: pull the joystick fully backward, push it fully forward, and then let it rest in the neutral position. Save the calibration, turn off the ignition key, and wait at least 30 seconds before restarting the tractor to test if the code clears.
Replace the Joystick / Potentiometer
If the calibration fails, or if the code returns shortly after operating the machine, disconnect the battery and remove the armrest control panel cover. Unplug the faulty multi-function handle/joystick harness, unbolt and remove the joystick assembly. Install the replacement joystick, reconnect the harness, and perform the calibration procedure (Step 1) again with the new joystick so the ACML can learn its specific voltage parameters.
