Case IH 518505-03 - BCM – BCM: Cab pressure blower motor control signal - short circuit to B+

Issue description

The control circuit responsible for regulating the cab pressurizer blower motor is receiving unexpected battery voltage (B+), meaning there is a short circuit to a power source somewhere in the wiring, the motor itself, or the control module.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the BCM to the cab roof/HVAC pressurizer blower motor for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or melted insulation.

  2. Disconnect the blower motor and the BCM connectors to inspect for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent/bridged pins.

  3. With the battery disconnected, use a digital multimeter to check for continuity between the blower motor control signal wire and the B+ power supply wires.

  4. Disconnect the blower motor and power the tractor on (without starting). If the code changes to an 'open circuit' code, the short is likely internal to the blower motor or its integrated speed controller/resistor. If it remains 'short circuit to B+', the fault is in the wiring harness or BCM.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Turn off the battery disconnect switch or remove the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the HVAC Unit

    Remove the cab roof panel or access hatch to expose the cab pressurizer blower motor assembly and its wiring.

  3. Repair Wiring

    If the multimeter test revealed a short in the harness, locate the damaged section. Splice and solder in new wiring, seal with heat-shrink tubing, and re-wrap the harness with protective loom.

  4. Replace the Blower Motor

    If the motor is internally shorted: Unplug the electrical connector from the blower motor. Remove the mounting screws/bolts securing the blower motor assembly to the HVAC housing. Remove the old motor and inspect the foam insulation and filter gaskets; replace them if they are degraded to ensure proper cab pressurization. Install the new blower motor assembly and secure the mounting hardware. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  5. Reassemble and Test

    Reinstall the cab roof/access panels. Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use the AFS Pro display to clear the inactive fault codes from the BCM. Run the HVAC system on 'Auto' and 'Manual' to verify the pressurizer motor operates at all speeds without throwing a code.
