Case IH 518560-01 - ACM – ACM: Internal failure in EHR lever 2

Issue description

The internal circuitry, potentiometer, or encoder within EHR lever 2 (Lever B) has failed, preventing the module from accurately reading the lever's position command (raise/lower/float).

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum AFS Connect series
  • Steiger AFS Connect series
  • Puma series (Tier 4A / Tier 4B and newer)
  • Optum series (Tier 4A / Tier 4B and newer)

Check the cause

  1. Check for Software/Calibration Issues: Attempt to recalibrate the EHR levers using the tractor's display (EIC/Pro 1200). If the lever was recently replaced or the controller updated, it must be calibrated. If calibration fails or the code immediately returns, proceed to hardware checks.

  2. Inspect Wiring: Open the armrest controller housing and inspect the wiring harness and connector to EHR Lever 2. Ensure there are no pinched wires, shorts, or loose connections.

  3. Swap Test: Swap the electrical connection of EHR Lever 2 (Lever B) with an adjacent lever (e.g., EHR Lever 3). If the fault code changes to the corresponding code for Lever 3 (518561-01), the lever itself is confirmed faulty. If the code remains 518560-01, the issue lies within the ACM or the armrest wiring harness.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect battery power to prevent electrical shorts while servicing the ACM.

  2. Open armrest housing

Remove the retaining screws to open the MultiControl Armrest housing/console.

  3. Disconnect wiring harness

Locate the EHR lever block. Disconnect the specific wiring harness connector attached to EHR Lever 2.

  4. Remove mounting hardware

Remove the mounting hardware securing the faulty EHR lever to the armrest assembly.

  5. Install new lever

Remove the old lever and install the new replacement EHR lever.

  6. Reconnect wiring and hardware

Secure the mounting hardware and reconnect the wiring harness.

  7. Reassemble housing

    Reassemble the armrest housing.

  8. Restore power

Restore battery power and turn the tractor key to the ON position.

  9. Calibrate EHR lever

Perform the EHR lever calibration procedure via the tractor's display so the ACM can learn the new lever's minimum, maximum, and neutral potentiometer values.
