Case IH 518561-03 - ACM – ACM: EHR lever C voltage high

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the potentiometer inside Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) lever C (remote lever #3) that exceeds the normal operating range (> 4.5V or 5V). This condition is usually caused by a failed internal potentiometer inside the EHR lever, a short circuit to a high voltage source (+5V or +12V) in the wiring harness, or an open sensor ground circuit.

   Perform the Swap Test: Swap the electrical connection of EHR lever C (Lever #3) with an adjacent working lever (Lever B/#2 or Lever D/#4). If the fault code changes to the new lever's circuit, the lever itself has failed. If the fault remains on circuit C, the issue is in the wiring harness or the ACM.

   Inspect the wiring harness between EHR lever C and the ACM for pinched wires, rubbed insulation, or loose/corroded pins at the connector.

   Verify voltage and ground: With the key ON, disconnect the lever and use a multimeter to measure the connector pins. Verify the presence of the +5V reference voltage and a solid sensor ground. Check the signal wire for an unwanted short to +12V.

   Check if the lever has lost its calibration due to a voltage spike or software glitch. Attempt to recalibrate the lever before replacing parts.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, apply the parking brake, and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrical spikes during the repair.

   Access the Levers

   Remove the armrest console cover and trim panels to expose the EHR lever modules.

   Remove the Faulty Lever

   Disconnect the electrical connector from EHR lever C. Remove the retaining screws or clips holding the lever assembly in place and pull the lever out of the armrest.

   Install the New Lever

   Insert the replacement EHR lever into the slot, secure it with the retaining hardware, and plug in the electrical connector.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the armrest console cover.

   Reconnect Battery

   Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition ON.

   Calibrate the Lever

   A new EHR lever MUST be calibrated to the ACM before it will function. Using the tractor's display monitor (e.g., AFS Pro) or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST), navigate to the EHR calibration menu. Follow the prompts to record the voltage values for the lever's positions. Typical calibrated values are approximately: Float = 0 mV, Lower/Retract = 180 mV, Neutral = 550 mV, Raised/Extend = 910 mV.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the 518561-03 fault code from the ACM memory and test the hydraulic remote for proper operation.
