Case IH 518562-00 - ACM – ACM: EHR lever D internal failure

Issue description

The system detects an internal failure, voltage irregularity, or a sensor mismatch (discordance) within the potentiometer of the specific remote control lever (EHR Lever 4 / Lever D) on the armrest.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 235-340
  • Magnum 260
  • Magnum 290
  • Steiger 350-600
  • Steiger Row Trac 500
  • Puma 140
  • Maxxum 140

Check the cause

  1. Check Calibration Status: Verify if the EHR lever was recently calibrated. If the lever was not calibrated (especially after a controller update or battery disconnect), perform the EHR lever calibration procedure.

  2. Recalibrate: If the lever was already calibrated, repeat the calibration procedure. Sometimes a simple recalibration of the potentiometer limits will clear the sensor mismatch.

  3. Check Wiring and Harness: Test the wiring harness from the armrest controls to the ACM, and from the ACM to the remote valves, to rule out an open circuit or short.

  4. Software Check: If the error code persists during calibration, ensure the controller has the correct level of software downloaded.

  5. Potentiometer Failure: If the lever fails to calibrate (e.g., the system thinks the switch is in the lower position when it is physically in neutral), the internal potentiometer has likely failed and the lever must be replaced.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the tractor's battery power to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Disassemble armrest

Disassemble the armrest control panel to access the Armrest Control Module (ACM) and the EHR lever assembly.

  3. Locate lever

Locate EHR Lever 4 (Lever D).

  4. Disconnect harness

Disconnect the wire harness connector (which typically includes four terminals) from the faulty lever.

  5. Remove lever

Remove the mounting hardware (usually 4 mounting holes on the side of the lever body) and extract the faulty lever.

  6. Install new lever

Install the new EHR lever, secure the mounting hardware, and plug in the wiring harness.

  7. Reassemble and reconnect

Reassemble the armrest panel and reconnect the battery.

  8. Calibrate lever

Power up the tractor and perform the EHR lever calibration procedure so the ACM can learn the new potentiometer's neutral, extend, and retract voltage limits.
