Case IH 518562-01 - ACM – ACM: Internal failure in EHR lever 4

Issue description

Internal failure in EHR lever 4 (commonly referred to as EHR lever D). The internal electronics of the lever assembly (typically the encoder or potentiometer that reads the physical position of the paddle) have failed, lost calibration, or are sending an erratic/out-of-range signal to the control module.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series
  • Case IH Steiger AFS Connect series
  • Case IH Puma AFS Connect series

Check the cause

  1. Attempt to perform the EHR lever calibration procedure via the tractor's Vision Pro display (Vehicle Settings > Menu Diagnostics > Vehicle Diagnostics > Calibration Wizard).

  2. Check the ACM for pending software updates. Download the correct level of software and re-attempt the calibration procedure if the initial calibration fails.

  3. Remove the armrest cover and inspect the wiring harness and connector at the base of EHR lever 4 for backed-out pins, corrosion, or pinched wires.

  4. Perform a component swap test by swapping the electrical connector of EHR lever 4 (Lever D) with an adjacent lever (e.g., EHR lever 3). If the fault code changes to the corresponding code for lever 3, the lever itself is internally failed. If the fault code remains on lever 4, the issue lies in the wiring harness or the ACM.

Repair steps

  1. Power down tractor

Power down the tractor and turn off the battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Remove armrest cover

Remove the retaining screws/clips securing the armrest control panel cover. Carefully lift the panel to expose the EHR lever assemblies.

  3. Disconnect harness

Locate EHR lever 4 (Lever D) and disconnect its electrical harness connector.

  4. Remove mounting hardware

Remove the mounting hardware (the lever assembly typically features 4 mounting holes on the side of the body) securing the faulty lever to the armrest bracket.

  5. Install replacement lever

Install the replacement EHR lever and secure it with the mounting screws.

  6. Reconnect harness

Reconnect the electrical harness to the new lever.

  7. Reinstall armrest cover

Reinstall the armrest control panel cover and secure it.

  8. Power on tractor

Turn on the battery disconnect and power on the tractor.

  9. Calibrate lever

Navigate to the Vision Pro display's Calibration Wizard and perform the EHR lever calibration procedure so the ACM can learn the new lever's parameters.
