Case IH 518565-00 - ACM – ACM: Internal failure of the EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) lever

Issue description

Fault code 518565-00 indicates an internal failure of the EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) lever (specifically designated as lever 'G' or a corresponding numbered remote). The fault occurs when the potentiometer or internal circuitry inside the lever fails, sending an implausible signal, out-of-range voltage, or failing to reach expected neutral/float states.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum series
  • Case IH Steiger / Quadtrac series
  • Case IH Puma, Maxxum, and Optum series

Check the cause

  1. Check Calibration Values: Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's A-post/Pro display to view the EHR lever's voltage values. Typical healthy values are Neutral: ~550 mV, Float: ~0 mV, Lower: ~180 mV, Raised: ~910 mV.

  2. Attempt Recalibration: Try to recalibrate the EHR lever. If the voltage deviations are higher than 30mV after multiple calibration attempts, the lever's internal potentiometer has failed and the lever must be replaced.

  3. Inspect Wiring: Verify the wiring harness and electrical connectors between the EHR lever and the ACM to rule out a short circuit or open circuit (check the 5V reference and sensor ground circuits).

Repair steps

  1. Save Data

Before removing any parts, connect the EST and save the previous calibration values from the EHR levers to your computer.

  2. Prepare the Machine

Ensure the tractor is not moving, the engine is off, the ignition is on (if required for EST communication, otherwise key off for physical repair), and the electronic/mechanical park brake is applied.

  3. Access the Levers

Remove the armrest cover/console trim to expose the Armrest Control Module (ACM) and the EHR lever block.

  4. Remove the Faulty Lever

Disconnect the electrical connector for the specific EHR lever throwing the fault. Remove the retaining screws (typically M4 x 12) holding the lever in place.

  5. Install the New Lever

Seat the new EHR lever into the armrest block, secure it with the retaining screws, and plug in the electrical connector.

  6. Reassemble

Reinstall the armrest cover and trim.

  7. Calibrate

Turn the tractor on and perform the EHR lever calibration procedure using the EST or the in-cab display (navigating to the ARM section and cycling the lever through the retract, extend, and neutral positions).

Parts you might need

(6)
  • Base control lever assembly

    84172185

EHR levers are often color-coded to match the corresponding remote valve on the back of the tractor. Verify the color/number of the specific remote lever ('G') that has failed.

  • Control Lever - Ginger/Tan color

    87613725

EHR levers are often color-coded to match the corresponding remote valve on the back of the tractor. Verify the color/number of the specific remote lever ('G') that has failed.

  • Control Lever - Blue color

    87613724

EHR levers are often color-coded to match the corresponding remote valve on the back of the tractor. Verify the color/number of the specific remote lever ('G') that has failed.

  • Control Lever - Green color

    87613723

EHR levers are often color-coded to match the corresponding remote valve on the back of the tractor. Verify the color/number of the specific remote lever ('G') that has failed.

  • EHR Lever / Joystick variant

    90493683

EHR levers are often color-coded to match the corresponding remote valve on the back of the tractor. Verify the color/number of the specific remote lever ('G') that has failed.

  • EHR Lever Assembly, Remote

    47848455

EHR levers are often color-coded to match the corresponding remote valve on the back of the tractor. Verify the color/number of the specific remote lever ('G') that has failed.
