Case IH 518567-00 - ACM – ACM: EHR valve selector knob internal failure
Issue description
This code indicates an internal hardware or circuitry failure within the Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve selector knob/lever assembly. The control module is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing signal from the knob's internal potentiometer or switches, preventing the operator from properly controlling the assigned hydraulic remote valve.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series
- Case IH Steiger AFS Connect series
- Case IH Optum series
- Case IH Puma series
Check the cause
Check for related ACM fault codes (such as 4004 - ACM offline, or 4005 - Levers not calibrated at power up) to rule out a broader ACM issue or shared wiring harness ground fault.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the EHR selector knob and the Armrest Control Module for pinched wires under the armrest console, backed-out pins, or debris.
Attempt to perform the EHR lever calibration procedure in the tractor's display (e.g., AFS Pro 1200) to correct potential voltage drift.
Ensure the ACM has the latest software level loaded via the Electronic Service Tool (EST), as outdated software can cause false EHR faults.
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Ensure the machine is safe to work on before beginning the repair.
Remove the retaining screws and carefully lift the trim cover/bezel on the MultiControl Armrest to access the EHR control levers and selector knobs.
This provides access to the internal components of the armrest.
Locate the specific EHR selector knob/lever assembly throwing the fault.
Identify the exact module that needs replacement.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the bottom of the faulty EHR knob assembly.
Carefully unplug the harness from the module.
Remove the mounting hardware (typically small Torx or Phillips screws) securing the EHR module to the armrest bracket.
Free the module from its mounting position.
Remove the faulty selector knob/lever.
Take the defective component out of the armrest.
Install the new EHR selector knob assembly and secure it with the mounting hardware.
Place the new module into position and fasten the screws.
Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Ensure a secure electrical connection to the new module.
Reinstall the armrest trim cover and reconnect the battery.
Reassemble the armrest and restore power to the tractor.
Power on the tractor and navigate to the EHR settings in the AFS display to perform the EHR lever calibration procedure.
Crucial Step: You must perform this calibration so the ACM can learn the voltage range of the new potentiometer.
Clear the inactive fault codes and test the hydraulic remote for proper operation.
Verify the repair was successful and the remote functions correctly.
