Case IH 518567-01 - ACM – ACM: EHR valve selector knob internal failure
Issue description
Internal hardware failure within the EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) valve selector knob or lever assembly. The module is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing signal from the knob's encoder, causing tractor safety protocols to lock out the affected hydraulic remote.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum Series (235, 260, 290, 315, 340)
- Steiger / Quadtrac Series (350, 400, 450, 500, 550, 600)
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
- Optum Series
Check the cause
Monitor Screen Test: Access the tractor's diagnostic monitor screen, move the suspect EHR knob/lever, and watch the status display. If the display does not match the physical potentiometer changes, the internal encoder has failed.
Switch Remotes: Assign the implement to a different SCV (e.g., move from SCV 1 to SCV 4). If the new remote works flawlessly, the issue is isolated to the specific EHR lever/knob or its pilot head.
Check ACM Software: Verify if there is a software update available for the Armrest Control Module. Previous updates have resolved erratic EHR lever codes and communication drops.
H-Menu Verification: Access the 'HJ' or 'H5' diagnostic menus in the instrument cluster to verify if the remote valves are actually activated (display should show 'AA' or 'FF', not '0') and that the switches are registering.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect battery power.
Disassemble Armrest
Remove the screws securing the top panel of the right-hand armrest console to expose the ACM and the EHR lever assemblies.
Remove Faulty Lever
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the bottom of the faulty EHR lever. Remove the retaining screws holding the lever assembly to the armrest bracket.
Install New Part
Mount the new EHR lever/knob assembly, secure the screws, and plug in the harness. Reassemble the armrest panel.
Perform Calibration
Turn the key ON. Access the calibration menu (press the PROG key to enter calibration screens). Use the INCR/DECR keys to select the specific remote valve you just replaced. Press PROG to start. Follow the on-screen prompts to move the lever through its full range of motion (Raise, Lower, Float, Neutral). The display will indicate when calibration is successful. If it fails (e.g., 'Error No CAN' or 'Cal Failed'), check the harness connections.
