Case IH 518571-02 - ACM – ACM: EHR B retract switch circuit fault

Issue description

The system has detected an electrical circuit malfunction—such as an open circuit, short circuit, or out-of-range voltage—specifically on the "retract" position circuit of the Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) B switch. This means the controller cannot accurately read the operator's command when trying to retract the B remote valve.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Steiger AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's display monitor to view the switch status (e.g., 'MFH EHR Switch 2 Retract' or 'EHR 2 lever position') and verify if the controller registers the switch movement when you physically move it.

  2. Check the physical condition of the EHR B switch/lever on the multifunction handle for sticking, debris, or mechanical failure.

  3. Check the wiring harness and connectors inside the armrest between the EHR B switch and the ACM for continuity, shorts to ground, or loose pins.

  4. Attempt to recalibrate the EHR switches/levers (e.g., by holding the program key while turning the ignition on, navigating to the ARM section, and cycling the levers). If the monitor shows the switch is in a different position than its physical state, the potentiometer/switch is likely failing.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect battery power before servicing armrest electrical components.

  2. Access the Switch

Disassemble the armrest console or multifunction handle to access the EHR switches.

  3. Test/Isolate

Disconnect the electrical connector for the EHR B switch. Test the switch directly with a multimeter for proper resistance/continuity when toggled to the retract position.

  4. Replace Component

If the switch fails the test or the potentiometer is worn out, replace the individual EHR toggle switch or the integrated joystick assembly (depending on how your specific armrest is configured).

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the wiring harness and reassemble the armrest console.

  6. Calibration

Reconnect the battery and turn the key on. You must perform the EHR calibration procedure using the monitor or EST so the ACM can learn the new switch's neutral, extend, and retract voltage values.

  7. Clear and Test

Clear the 518571-02 fault code from the ACM and test the hydraulic remote operation to ensure the retract function works properly.
