Case IH 518586-05 - UCM – UCM: Brake assisted steering right solenoid current low

The control module has detected that the electrical current flowing through the circuit for the right-hand brake-assisted steering solenoid is below the minimum expected threshold. This almost always indicates an "open circuit" condition, which is typically caused by a disconnected plug, a severed wire in the harness, or a burnt-out/failed solenoid coil.

   Visually inspect the brake-assisted steering valve block and the wiring harness leading to the right-hand solenoid for physical damage, rubbing, or severed wires.

   Disconnect the plug at the right solenoid and check for water ingress, pushed-back pins, or heavy corrosion.

   Perform a coil resistance test using a multimeter across the pins of the right solenoid coil. A healthy coil should read approximately 7.3 Ohms to 8.5 Ohms. If it reads 'OL' (infinite resistance), the internal coil is broken.

   If the solenoid tests good, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the UCM to rule out a broken wire.

   Turn off the tractor, apply the parking brake, and disconnect the battery

   to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the brake-assisted steering valve assembly

   (typically mounted near the rear axle/differential housing).

   Unplug the electrical connector from the right-hand solenoid.

   Remove the solenoid retaining cover/nut

   (often a hex socket plug or retaining cap).

   Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve stem.

   (If it is a single-piece cartridge valve, unthread the entire cartridge from the valve block, being prepared to catch a small amount of hydraulic fluid).

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem (or thread in the new cartridge) and secure it with the retaining cover.

   Do not overtighten the retaining nut, as this can distort the coil.

   Reconnect the electrical harness

   ensuring the weather-pack connector clicks firmly into place.

   Reconnect the battery, power on the tractor, and use the AFS Pro 1200 display to clear the inactive fault codes.

   Test the tractor by performing a tight turn to engage the brake-assisted steering

   and verify the code does not return.
