518594-00 - ACM

Case IH 518594-00 - ACM – ACM: Internal failure of the Front PTO engage switch

Issue description

The system has detected that the switch mechanism itself has failed internally (e.g., an internal short, open circuit, or mechanical breakage), preventing it from sending the correct engagement or disengagement signal to the tractor's control system.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum Series (including AFS Connect models, 180 through 380)
  • Optum CVX Series (e.g., Optum 270, 300)
  • Puma Series (e.g., Puma 200 CVT)
  • Steiger / Quadtrac Series

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Check the Front PTO switch on the armrest for physical damage, sticking, or lack of a tactile 'click' when toggled.

  2. Wiring and Connector Check: Access the underside of the armrest panel. Inspect the electrical connector at the back of the switch for loose pins, backed-out wires, or corrosion.

  3. Multimeter Testing: Test the switch for continuity. Toggle the switch while measuring resistance across the pins. If the multimeter reads an open circuit (infinite resistance) when the switch is engaged, or if it behaves erratically, the switch has failed internally.

  4. ACM Communication: Ensure there are no other ACM communication loss codes (such as 2818 or 2819), which would indicate a broader failure of the armrest module rather than just the switch.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully remove the retaining screws or pry the trim piece on the Armrest Control Module (ACM) / Integrated Control Panel to access the underside of the switches.

  3. Disconnect

Locate the Front PTO switch and unplug its electrical wiring harness connector.

  4. Remove the Faulty Switch

Squeeze the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it upward/outward through the top of the armrest bezel.

  5. Install the New Switch

Push the new OEM switch down into the armrest slot until the retaining tabs click securely into place.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back into the new switch, ensuring the locking tab engages.

  7. Reassemble

Secure the armrest panel back into its original position.

  8. Test and Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use the tractor's monitor to clear the inactive 518594-00 fault code. Start the tractor and test the Front PTO engagement to verify the repair.
