Case IH 518662-02 - ACM – ACM: Multi function handle hitch fast raise switch circuit fault

Issue description

The control module has detected an electrical circuit malfunction (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power) specifically on the circuit for the "Fast Raise" button for the rear hitch, which is located on the tractor's Multi-Function Handle (MFH) joystick.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Puma 125
  • Puma 165
  • Puma 180
  • Puma 195
  • Puma 210
  • Puma 225 CVX
  • Magnum 290
  • Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Power off the tractor and disconnect the battery earth cables to prevent damage to sensitive electronic systems

  2. Access the underside of the armrest and inspect connector X846 for loose pins, corrosion, or moisture

  3. Inspect the wiring harness running from the Multi-Function Handle (S-116/S117 switch circuit) to the Armrest Control Module for chafing, pinching, or breaks

  4. Test the Fast Raise switch for proper operation and continuity; if the switch does not show a change in state when pressed, the internal switch or circuit board has failed

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery ground cables.

  2. Access the Armrest Console

Carefully remove the trim panels on the Global Arm Rest Unit to expose the base of the Multi-Function Handle and its wiring.

  3. Disconnect the MFH

Unplug the main electrical connector (X846) that links the Multi-Function Handle to the tractor's main armrest harness.

  4. Remove the Handle

Unbolt the Multi-Function Handle assembly from the armrest base. (Note: The individual hitch switches are typically integrated into the handle's circuit board and are not serviced separately; the entire handle must be replaced if the switch fails internally).

  5. Install the New Handle

Mount the replacement Multi-Function Handle and secure the mounting hardware.

  6. Reconnect Wiring

Plug connector X846 back into the harness, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

  7. Reassemble and Test

Reinstall the armrest trim panels, reconnect the battery, and power on the tractor. Test the rear hitch fast raise function to verify operation and ensure the 518662-02 code changes to an inactive state or clears.
