Case IH 518666-01 - ACM – ACM: Mouse wheel internal failure

Internal hardware or circuit failure within the encoder dial/knob assembly (mouse wheel) on the MultiControl Armrest.

   Inspect the encoder dial on the MultiControl Armrest for physical damage, sticking, or liquid/debris intrusion that could cause an internal short.

   Test the encoder's physical inputs. Rotating the knob clockwise should register as 'right' or 'down', counterclockwise as 'left' or 'up', and pushing the knob should register as 'enter' on the AFS Pro 1200 display. Note any dead spots or lack of response.

   Verify the wiring harness and connectors between the encoder dial assembly and the Armrest Control Module (ACM) for pin damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the CAN1/ISOBUS diagnostic port to verify the ACM configuration and monitor the live voltage/signal inputs from the mouse wheel to confirm the internal failure.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the ACM components.

   Armrest Disassembly

   Carefully remove the top trim and cover panels of the MultiControl Armrest to access the internal control boards and the encoder dial assembly.

   Disconnect the Encoder

   Unplug the electrical connector linking the mouse wheel/encoder dial to the Armrest Control Module (ACM).

   Replace the Component

   Since code 518666-01 specifies an internal failure of the mouse wheel, the encoder dial assembly itself must be replaced. Remove the mounting screws holding the failed encoder and install the new unit.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the wiring harness to the ACM and reinstall the armrest cover panels.

   Calibration/Clearing

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use the AFS Pro 1200 display or the EST tool to clear the inactive 518666-01 fault code.

   Final Test

   Rotate and press the new encoder dial to ensure it successfully navigates the display menus and controls the tractor's HVAC/radio functions without throwing a new code.
