Case IH 518666-19 - ACM – ACM: Mouse wheel disconnected
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the Armrest Control Module has lost communication or detected an open circuit with the "mouse wheel" (rotary encoder dial) located on the Multicontroller armrest.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS Connect series
- Steiger / Quadtrac AFS Connect series
- Optum AFS Connect series
- Puma AFS Connect series
Check the cause
Inspect the encoder dial on the Multicontroller armrest for physical damage, liquid spills, or debris that could impede its function.
Carefully remove the armrest trim to access the underside of the encoder dial, disconnect the electrical connector, and inspect the pins for corrosion, bent terminals, or pushed-out pins.
Check the wiring harness continuity between the encoder dial (mouse) and the Armrest Control Module (ACM) for chafing, pinches, or breaks.
Verify that the encoder is receiving the proper reference voltage and has a solid ground connection from the ACM.
Perform a hard reset by disconnecting the tractor's battery for 10-15 minutes to see if the ACM re-establishes communication with the encoder upon reboot.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and turn off the master battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical shorts.
Disassemble the Armrest
Carefully pry up or unscrew the upper trim panels of the Multicontroller armrest to expose the internal components and the underside of the encoder dial.
Disconnect the Encoder
Unplug the wiring harness connector directly attached to the EDC mouse/encoder assembly.
Remove the Faulty Component
Remove the retaining screws or clips holding the encoder dial assembly in place and lift it out of the armrest console.
Install the New Part
Seat the new encoder dial assembly into the armrest and secure it with the retaining hardware.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back into the new encoder, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Reassemble
Snap or screw the armrest trim panels back into their original positions.
Test and Clear Codes
Turn on the battery disconnect and start the tractor. Use the AFS Pro 1200 display (or a dealer diagnostic tool) to clear the inactive 518666-19 fault code. Test the new encoder dial to ensure it properly navigates the display menus.
