Case IH 518676-01 - ACM – ACM: Hitch settings selector knob internal failure
Issue description
The system has detected an internal hardware or circuit failure within the hitch settings selector knob (the rotary encoder dial). This encoder is used by the operator to navigate menus and adjust hitch parameters (such as draft control, lower/upper limits, and drop rates) on the AFS Pro 1200 display.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Steiger AFS Connect
- Quadtrac AFS Connect
- Optum AFS Connect
Check the cause
Check for Software Updates: Verify the ACM software version. Outdated software can trigger false ACM fault codes. Update the ACM to the latest software version via the dealer portal.
Physical Inspection: Test the physical rotation and 'press' function of the hitch settings encoder dial on the Multicontroller armrest. Check if it feels mechanically broken, sticky, or unresponsive on the AFS Pro 1200 display.
Wiring and Connections: Lift the armrest console cover and ensure the sub-harness connector plugging into the encoder and the ACM is fully seated and free of pin corrosion.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts while working on the ACM.
Access the Armrest Internals
Carefully remove the retaining screws on the underside or perimeter of the Multicontroller armrest to lift the upper console trim.
Disconnect the Encoder
Locate the hitch settings selector encoder (the dial button encoder). Unplug its electrical connector from the ACM harness.
Remove the Faulty Knob/Encoder
Unbolt or unclip the encoder module from the armrest housing.
Install the New Part
Seat the new encoder into the armrest housing, secure it, and plug in the electrical connector.
Reassembly
Reinstall the armrest trim panels and secure all screws.
Calibration/Clearing
Reconnect the battery, power on the tractor, and use the AFS Pro 1200 display (or dealer electronic service tool) to clear the inactive 518676-01 fault code. Test the new dial to ensure it properly navigates the hitch settings menu.
