Case IH 518683-03 - ACM – ACM: Rear hitch settings selector knob voltage high

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the rear hitch settings selector knob (potentiometer/encoder) that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This typically indicates an open circuit on the sensor ground, a short to power in the signal wire, or an internal failure of the knob's potentiometer itself.

   Check for related ACM fault codes (such as 518683-00, 518683-01, or 518683-06) using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or AFS Pro 1200 display.

   Visually inspect the Multicontroller armrest control panel for physical damage or liquid intrusion around the rear hitch settings selector knob.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors beneath the armrest control panel for bent pins, pushed-out terminals, or corrosion.

   Test the sensor ground circuit for continuity to the ACM ground (an open ground will cause the signal voltage to float high).

   Check the signal wire for a short to a 5V or 12V power source.

   Verify the ACM software version via the EST, as firmware updates may resolve erroneous voltage spikes.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and turn off the battery isolator switch to prevent electrical arcing.

   Disassemble the Armrest

   Carefully remove the trim panels on the Multicontroller armrest to access the Integrated Control Panel and the ACM.

   Isolate the Fault

   Disconnect the rear hitch settings selector knob. Turn the battery back on and measure the voltage at the harness connector. If the voltage on the signal wire drops to 0V (or reference voltage), the wiring is likely good, and the selector knob itself has failed internally. If the voltage remains high with the knob disconnected, there is a short to power in the wiring harness between the knob and the ACM.

   Replace the Component

   If the knob is faulty, replace the rear hitch settings selector knob assembly. Note: On some AFS Connect Multicontroller armrests, individual knobs are not serviced separately and require replacing the Integrated Control Panel sub-assembly.

   Reassemble and Calibrate

   Reconnect all electrical plugs and reinstall the armrest trim.

   Clear Codes

   Connect the Case IH EST to the diagnostic port (CAN1/ISOBUS). Clear the 518683-03 fault code.

   Operational Test

   Navigate to the rear hitch settings on the AFS Pro 1200 display. Turn the selector knob and verify that the hitch parameters adjust smoothly without logging a new fault code.
