Case IH 518683-06 - ACM – ACM: Rear hitch settings selector knob voltage low
Issue description
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the rear hitch settings selector knob (encoder) that has fallen below the minimum acceptable threshold, typically indicating a short to ground, a failed potentiometer/encoder, or a wiring issue.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum 310 AFS Connect
- Magnum 340 AFS Connect
- Magnum 380 AFS Connect
- Magnum 400 AFS Connect
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness connecting the rear hitch settings selector knob to the ACM for chafing, pinching, or exposed wires that could cause a short to ground.
Disconnect the selector knob and inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-back terminals, or moisture.
Using a multimeter, verify that the knob is receiving the correct reference voltage and has a solid ground from the ACM.
Test the signal output of the selector knob while turning it. If the voltage remains low or drops out entirely during the sweep, the knob has failed internally.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the ACM
Carefully remove the trim panels on the Multicontroller armrest to access the internal wiring and the rear hitch settings selector knob assembly.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty selector knob.
Wiring Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wire and secure it with heat shrink and loom.
Replace the Component
If the wiring is intact and the knob itself failed the voltage test, remove the retaining screws/clips holding the knob in place and install the new selector knob.
Reassembly
Reconnect the wiring harness and reassemble the armrest console trim.
Clear and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and use the AFS Pro 1200 display (or a diagnostic tool) to clear the ACM fault codes. Test the rear hitch settings to ensure the voltage reads correctly and the code does not return.
