Case IH 518685-03 - ACM – ACM: Hitch Settings Knob Voltage High

The Armrest Control Module (ACM) is receiving a voltage signal from the hitch settings selector knob (potentiometer) that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This condition typically indicates a short to power (12V) in the sensor circuit, an open ground circuit, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors inside the cab armrest for pinched wires, chafing, or exposed copper that could cause a short to power

   Disconnect the harness at the hitch settings selector knob and the ACM to check for moisture, dust, or corrosion on the pins

   Test the signal wire from the knob to the ACM with a multimeter for a short to 12V

   Test the ground circuit for the knob to ensure it has continuity to the module ground (an open ground causes signal voltage to float high)

   Test the hitch settings selector knob (potentiometer) for a smooth resistance sweep to check for internal failure

   Disconnect power

   Disconnect the tractor's battery or turn off the master disconnect switch before servicing armrest electronics to prevent electrostatic discharge damage.

   Disassemble the armrest

   Remove the retaining screws holding the upper plastic trim of the multi-control armrest to expose the Integrated Control Panel (ICP) and the Armrest Control Module (ACM).

   Isolate the fault

   If multimeter tests prove the wiring harness is intact and the ground is good, the fault lies within the hitch settings selector knob.

   Replace the Integrated Control Panel (ICP)

   Since individual knobs are not serviced separately, replace the ICP assembly or the specific sub-module housing the hitch controls. Disconnect the plug-and-play harness from the old panel and connect the new one.

   Reassemble and calibrate

   Reinstall the armrest trim and restore battery power. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the 518685-03 fault code, then navigate to the HITCH CAL menu on the AFS display to recalibrate the hitch settings and draft control limits.
