Case IH 518840-04 - VCM – VCM: 12VA supply voltage low

The 12-volt 'A' (12VA) reference or supply circuit powering the module has dropped below the normal operating threshold.

   Check the VCM fuses, specifically fuse F-011 (5 A) designated for the VCM 12VA circuit.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the power distribution board and the VCM for chafed wires causing a short to ground, or corroded pins causing high resistance/open circuits on the 12VA line.

   Verify system voltage by ensuring the tractor's batteries are fully charged and the alternator is outputting the correct voltage, as a system-wide voltage drop can trigger localized module supply faults.

   Power Down

   Turn off the key switch and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Fuse Replacement

   Access the main fuse panel. If fuse F-011 (5A) is blown, replace it with a new 5-amp fuse.

   Harness Testing

   If the fuse is intact, disconnect the main harness from the VCM. Use a digital multimeter to measure the voltage at the 12VA supply pin on the harness side. It should read steady battery voltage.

   Repair Wiring

   If voltage is low or absent at the connector, trace the 12VA wire back to the fuse block and repair the break or clean the corroded terminals.

   Module Replacement

   If the wiring harness delivers proper 12V power to the VCM under load, but the VCM continues to log the 518840-04 internal voltage fault, the VCM has an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.

   Reassembly and Clearing

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use the AFS Pro monitor or a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive fault codes.
