Case IH 518849-04 - VCM – VCM: VCM - 12VF3 supply voltage low / Rail 12VF3 Input Power Off

Issue description

The control module is detecting that the voltage at the 12VF3 power input rail is below the normal operational limit or completely off. This specific power rail typically supplies voltage to critical hydraulic or suspension functions, such as the Boom Raise/Lower circuits on loaders or the front suspension/implement circuits on tractors.

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the main power voltage from the tractor to the VCM is not below normal operating levels (approximately 12V)

  2. Check the specific fuse assigned to the 12VF3 rail, as a blown fuse is the most common cause of this fault

  3. Test the power control relays (such as the cab power relay or UCM enclosure relay) to ensure they are engaging and sending power to the module

  4. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the VCM for open circuits, corrosion at the pins, or shorts to ground that could be interrupting the voltage supply

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the machine, lower any suspended implements or booms to the ground, and disconnect the battery to ensure safety.

  2. Locate the Fuse Box

    Access the primary fuse and relay distribution box associated with the VCM/UCM.

  3. Inspect and Replace the Fuse

    Locate the fuse for the 12VF3 rail (identified in service manuals as F-076 for UCM/VCM B+ 12VF3). Pull the fuse and test it for continuity with a multimeter. If it is blown, replace it with a new 20A fuse.

  4. Test the Relay

    If the fuse is intact, locate the UCM/VCM power relay (e.g., Cab Power Relay K-001 or Implement Power Relay K-006). Swap it with a known good relay of the same type to see if power is restored to the rail.

  5. Verify Voltage at the VCM

    Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition to the ON position. Use a multimeter to back-probe the 12VF3 input pin at the VCM connector. You should read standard battery voltage.

  6. Repair Wiring (if necessary)

    If the fuse and relay are good but voltage is still absent at the VCM pin, trace the wiring harness back to the power distribution center. Repair any broken wires or clean corroded connectors.

  7. Clear Codes and Test

    Once power is restored, use the diagnostic display to clear the fault codes. Operate the machine (specifically the boom raise/lower or suspension functions) to verify the code does not return.
