Case IH 518862-03 - BCM – BCM: ATC recirculation box - reception error

The Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) blend door/recirculation actuator is not responding to or communicating with the control module. Because the system cannot verify the position of the blend door, the HVAC temperature control becomes inoperable.

   Check the HVAC ductwork for misalignment or blockages that could physically jam the blend door, causing the actuator to stall or fail to respond.

   Ensure the cabin air filter is not completely clogged and that the evaporator/heater cores are free of debris.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the BCM and the blend door actuator. Check for a proper ground, 12V battery voltage supply, and verify the signal/communication lines for continuity or short circuits.

   Verify that the fan speed adjustment knob and A/C switch are functioning properly to rule out a control panel failure.

   Preparation

   Turn off the ignition and ensure the air conditioning system is completely OFF before servicing. Disconnect battery power if required by standard electrical safety procedures.

   Access the Actuator

   Locate the ATC blend door actuator on the main HVAC housing (typically located under the cab console or in the roof liner, depending on the specific cab configuration).

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the faulty actuator. Remove the mounting screws securing the actuator to the HVAC box.

   Replacement

   Pull the old actuator off the blend door shaft. Align the new actuator's drive spline/pin with the blend door linkage.

   Installation

   Secure the new actuator with the mounting screws and reconnect the electrical harness.

   Testing

   Restore power, turn on the HVAC system, and cycle the temperature control knob from full cold to full hot. Verify that the blend door moves smoothly without binding.

   Clear Codes

   Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 518862-03 code from the BCM memory.
