Case IH 518863-02 - BCM – BCM: ATC left vent door actuator - reception error
Issue description
This indicates a communication failure or signal loss within the Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) system. The control module is unable to receive valid position data, feedback, or CAN communication from the electronic actuator responsible for controlling the left air distribution vent door.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum 400 AFS Connect
Check the cause
Cycle the ATC switch off and on. Observe if the digital temperature display reappears or if the fault resets.
Check the wiring harness between the BCM and the left vent door actuator for physical damage, chafing, or loose connector pins.
Test the actuator circuit for an open load, short circuit to ground, or short circuit to battery voltage.
Verify the CAN configuration and ensure the actuator is properly communicating on the network.
Repair steps
Power down and disconnect battery
Power down the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Access HVAC air distribution box
Access the HVAC air distribution box (typically located under the cab roof panel or behind the front console panels, depending on the specific Magnum AFS Connect cab configuration).
Locate left vent door actuator
Locate the left vent door actuator mounted on the side of the HVAC duct shield/recirculation box.
Inspect electrical connections
Disconnect the electrical pigtail from the actuator and inspect the terminals for corrosion or pushed-out pins.
Remove mounting screws
If the wiring tests good (proper voltage and ground present) but the reception error persists, the actuator's internal circuitry has failed. Remove the mounting screws securing the actuator to the HVAC housing.
Remove faulty actuator
Remove the faulty actuator, taking care not to damage the plastic blend door shaft or linkage.
Install replacement actuator
Install the replacement actuator, ensuring the splines/linkage align correctly with the vent door shaft. Secure with the mounting screws.
Reconnect electrical harness and battery
Reconnect the electrical harness, reconnect the battery, and turn the key to the ON position.
Calibrate actuator and clear fault
Turn on the ATC system and allow the BCM to run its automated sweep to calibrate the new actuator's end-stops. Clear the inactive fault code from the BCM memory.
