518863-03 - BCM

Case IH 518863-03 - BCM – BCM: ATC left vent door actuator overvoltage or short circuit to a high voltage source

Issue description

The ATC left vent door actuator is receiving excessive voltage or is shorted to power, causing it to stop responding to climate control inputs and leading to reduced HVAC function.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect
  • Case IH Steiger AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the ATC switch off and on to see if the digital temperature display resets and the fault clears, which can happen if it was a transient voltage spike.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the BCM and the left vent door actuator for chafed wires that may be shorting to a 12V power supply line.

  3. Disconnect the actuator and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins that could be bridging the power and signal circuits.

  4. With the actuator unplugged, use a multimeter to check the BCM output voltage at the connector. If voltage is normal, the internal circuitry of the actuator itself is likely shorted.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the machine's battery to ensure no power is routed to the BCM during the repair.

  2. Access the HVAC Plenum

Access the HVAC plenum assembly. Depending on the exact cab configuration, this requires removing the interior cab roof headliner or the right-hand console panels to expose the HVAC housing.

  3. Remove the Actuator

Locate the left vent door actuator on the HVAC housing. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the actuator.

  4. Unbolt the Actuator

Remove the mounting screws securing the actuator motor to the louver/blend door linkage.

  5. Install the New Part

Align the new actuator's splines/linkage with the vent door shaft. Secure it with the mounting screws.

  6. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical harness, reinstall the cab interior panels, and reconnect the battery.

  7. Calibration

Turn the key on and cycle the ATC temperature control knob through its full range (from the solid blue band to the solid red band) to allow the BCM to learn the new actuator's end-stops and clear the fault code.
