Case IH 518863-12 - BCM – BCM: Permanent electrical defect or overvoltage condition in the ATC left vent door actuator circuit

The controller is detecting an electrical value outside of the normal operating range for the actuator that controls the left-side air distribution vent, preventing it from functioning or calibrating correctly.

   Activate the self-test diagnostic mode from the climate control panel to read out active faults and attempt to recalibrate the door actuators.

   Check the wiring harness between the BCM and the left vent door actuator for a short to power (overvoltage) or short to ground.

   Inspect the physical vent door and linkage for binding or jamming, which can cause the actuator to strip its gears or the module to register a permanent fault.

   Disconnect the negative battery terminal for at least 10 minutes to reset the BCM and ATC modules, then reconnect and turn the key on to allow the system to sync.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent short circuits while working on the BCM and HVAC system.

   Access the HVAC Plenum

   Remove the necessary cab interior panels/glovebox to access the HVAC plenum and the mode door motors.

   Remove the Actuator

   Locate the left vent door actuator. Disconnect its electrical connector and remove the mounting screws securing the actuator motor to the HVAC housing.

   Inspect the Door

   Manually move the left vent door linkage to ensure it moves freely and is not physically jammed or broken.

   Install the New Actuator

   Mount the replacement actuator, ensuring the gears/linkage align properly with the vent door without forcing it. Secure the screws and plug in the electrical connector.

   Recalibrate

   Reassemble the dash panels, reconnect the battery, and turn the key to the ON position. Allow the BCM and ATC controller time to automatically sweep and recalibrate the new actuator's position before operating the HVAC controls.
