518864-02 - BCM

Case IH 518864-02 - BCM – BCM: ATC right vent door actuator - reception error

Issue description

The control module is failing to receive the expected communication or position data from the right vent door actuator within the Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) system. The underlying condition is typically a loss of signal, a communication timeout, or an open/short in the data circuit preventing the actuator from reporting its status to the network.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 200 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 220 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 310 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 340 AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the BCM to the ATC right vent door actuator for chafing, breaks, or pinched wires.

  2. Disconnect the actuator and check the electrical connectors at both the actuator and the BCM for loose, bent, pushed-back, or corroded pins.

  3. Verify that the actuator is receiving proper operating power and a solid ground.

  4. Test the communication/signal line for continuity between the actuator and the BCM. Ensure the line is not shorted to ground or to voltage.

  5. If the wiring, power, and ground are all intact and within specification, the actuator's internal circuitry has likely failed, causing the reception error.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts or accidental module damage.

  2. Access the HVAC Unit

Remove the necessary cab headliner components or access panels to reach the main HVAC unit assembly (typically located in the cab roof on Magnum series tractors).

  3. Locate the Actuator

Identify the right vent door actuator on the HVAC housing.

  4. Removal

Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the actuator. Remove the mounting screws securing the actuator to the HVAC housing, then carefully pull the actuator straight off the vent door shaft.

  5. Installation

Align the new actuator with the vent door shaft. Note: Do not force the actuator onto the shaft; manually rotate the vent door slightly if needed to align the keyed shaft with the actuator socket.

  6. Secure

Fasten the new actuator with the mounting screws and reconnect the electrical connector.

  7. Reassembly

Reinstall the cab roof/access panels and reconnect the battery.

  8. Calibration

Turn the key on. Use the AFS Pro 1200 display or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive fault code and perform an HVAC actuator calibration. This step is critical so the BCM can learn the physical end-stops of the new actuator.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • HVAC Actuator / Vent Door Actuator

    91850325

Supersedes older part number 47667902. Fits Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series tractors. Verify exact fitment with your specific serial number, as Tier 4A vs. Tier 4B/AFS Connect models occasionally have mid-year HVAC housing updates.

  • HVAC Actuator / Vent Door Actuator
