518866-02 - BCM

Case IH 518866-02 - BCM – BCM: ATC floor vent door actuator - reception error

Issue description

The Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) system has lost communication with the floor vent door actuator. The "reception error" indicates that the control module is sending a command but is not receiving the expected position feedback or LIN bus/CAN communication signal back from the actuator. This typically points to a wiring issue, a disconnected plug, or a failed internal circuit board inside the actuator motor.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series
  • Case IH Steiger AFS Connect series
  • Case IH Optum AFS Connect series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the BCM and the floor vent actuator for pinched wires, rodent damage, or loose/corroded pins at the connector

  2. Verify that the actuator is receiving proper operating voltage and has a clean ground

  3. Check the signal wire for continuity back to the BCM, ensuring it is not shorted to ground or power

  4. Attempt an HVAC actuator recalibration using the AFS Pro 1200 display or the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to rule out a software glitch

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent short circuits and to force a module reset upon reassembly.

  2. Access the HVAC Box

Depending on the exact tractor model, the HVAC distribution box is typically located under the cab seat or behind the lower dash console. Remove the necessary trim panels or lift the seat assembly to expose the HVAC unit.

  3. Locate the Floor Vent Actuator

The HVAC box has multiple actuators (blend, defrost, floor, etc.). Locate the specific actuator controlling the lower floor vent door.

  4. Remove the Actuator

Disconnect the electrical harness plug from the actuator. Remove the mounting screws securing the actuator to the HVAC housing. Pull the actuator straight off the blend door shaft.

  5. Install the New Actuator

Align the splines/shaft of the new actuator with the floor vent door pivot. Do not force it; rotate the door manually if needed to align the keys. Secure the mounting screws and plug in the electrical connector.

  6. Reassemble and Calibrate

Reinstall all cab trim/seat components. Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and allow the BCM to run its self-check. You may need to run an HVAC calibration procedure so the BCM can learn the physical end-stops of the new actuator.
