518866-03 - BCM

Case IH 518866-03 - BCM – BCM: ATC Floor Vent Door Actuator Overvoltage / Short to Power

Issue description

The ATC floor vent door actuator is receiving excessive voltage or is shorted, causing it to stop responding to commands. The system flags this and reduces HVAC functionality to prevent further electrical damage or erratic climate control behavior.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Steiger AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness running from the BCM to the ATC floor vent door actuator for chafed wires that may be shorting to a 12V power source (B+).

  2. Disconnect the floor vent door actuator and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals that could bridge the power and signal wires.

  3. With the actuator disconnected and the key ON, use a multimeter to check the voltage at the actuator connector to verify if the signal/LIN wire is receiving constant battery voltage.

  4. If the wiring tests fine, check if the internal circuitry of the actuator itself has failed and shorted internally.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the battery disconnect switch to prevent any further electrical shorts or damage to the BCM.

  2. Access the HVAC Unit

Remove the necessary interior cab trim panels to access the main HVAC distribution box (typically located under the seat or in the roof console) and locate the specific actuator controlling the floor vent door.

  3. Remove the Actuator

Unplug the electrical connector from the floor vent door actuator and remove the mounting screws holding the actuator to the HVAC housing.

  4. Install the New Actuator

Align the new actuator with the blend door shaft. Do not force it; ensure the splines/shaft line up correctly, then secure it with the mounting screws.

  5. Reconnect and Calibrate

Plug the electrical connector back in, reconnect the battery power, and turn the key to the ON position. Use the AFS Pro display or a diagnostic tool (like the CNH EST) to clear the BCM fault codes and initiate an HVAC actuator calibration procedure so the BCM learns the new actuator's end-stops.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • ATC Floor Vent Door Actuator (or HVAC Blend Door Actuator)

Ensure you are ordering the actuator specifically for the 'Floor Vent' (Respiro do piso). Provide your tractor's serial number to a Case IH dealer to get the exact CNH part number.
