Case IH 518889-05 - BCM – BCM: Ambient white illumination driver - open circuit
Issue description
The control module has detected an open circuit in the electrical path that drives the cab's ambient white interior lighting. This typically means there is a broken wire, an unplugged connector, or a burnt-out light assembly preventing electrical current from flowing through the circuit.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum AFS Connect Series
- Case IH Steiger AFS Connect Series
- Case IH Quadtrac AFS Connect Series
Check the cause
Visually inspect the cab interior ambient white lights to determine if the LED or bulb has failed, creating an open circuit.
Trace the wiring harness from the ambient lighting fixtures back to the BCM. Look for disconnected plugs, loose pins, or wires that have been pinched or chafed.
Check the BCM software version via the AFS Pro 1200 display. Verify if an update (e.g., software version 91770803) is available to resolve module logic issues.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect battery power to prevent short circuits while working on the BCM and cab wiring.
Secure Connections
Reconnect any loose or unplugged connectors found in the ambient lighting circuit overhead or behind the cab trim panels.
Repair Wiring
If a broken wire is found between the BCM and the ambient light assembly, splice and repair the wire using OEM-approved electrical connectors and heat shrink.
Replace the Light Assembly
If the wiring is intact and the BCM is outputting the correct voltage, the ambient light assembly itself has an internal open circuit (failed LED/driver) and must be replaced.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use the AFS Pro 1200 monitor or a dealer diagnostic tool to clear the 518889-05 fault code from the BCM. Test the interior lighting to ensure the fault does not return.
Parts you might need
(3)Cab Interior Ambient Light Assembly
1983391C1For older legacy Magnum/CX models, the OEM cab interior light part number is 1983391C1, and aftermarket LED replacements are often listed under D71346, but verify fitment for AFS Connect cabs.
Body Control Module (BCM)
Only requires replacement if the internal driver for the ambient lighting has failed and cannot output power despite intact wiring and a good light assembly.
Wiring Harness / Connectors
Standard automotive-grade wiring repair supplies if the open circuit is located in the harness.
